Our history

Virbac is proud to be the number one dedicated veterinary pharmaceutical company in the world. Unlike many of our competitors in the animal health market, we have no interests in human pharmaceuticals – our ground-breaking research facilities are dedicated exclusively to veterinary medicines.

From the company’s beginnings in 1968, Virbac has always been sympathetic to the interests of the practising vet. Founded in Carros, close to Nice by veterinary surgeon Pierre-Richard Dick, Virbac is still controlled by the Dick family, whose values are the foundation upon which Virbac’s strategy is built. With a turnover of €694 million in 2012, Virbac is the largest independent pharmaceutical company exclusively dedicated to animal health.

Currently Virbac is ranked in the top 10 animal health companies in the UK and has been steadily growing, year on year.

In the UK, Virbac supplies a constantly expanding portfolio of small animal, equine and livestock products. Its wide range of vaccines and medicines are used in prevention and treatment of the main pathologies seen in practice, plus specialist products such as Cortavance, Suprelorin, Virbagen Omega and Ypozane demonstrate the innovative approach to Virbac's product development.

Over the past 40 years the company has become a recognised expert in the veterinary sector, offering products and services that combine quality, effectiveness and convenience for veterinary practices and animal owners alike.

Virbac UK is also committed to providing excellent business support through a range of services specifically developed to support and help veterinary practices grow.
